At this time, there is not software than can reliably do this. You can convert MIDI files easily to notation – but not mp3, wma, etc. There a pitch-to MIDI converters that will allow you to play or sing an acoustic instrument into a mike – but they only capture discrete, separate tone, as referenced with a metronome – you sing or play dah dah dah. Only monophonic, too. Easier to play them in with a keyboard.

There are people who are going to tell you that THEY have for sale something *magic* that will do what you ask. Nope. They also say they can take the vocals out of a CD, rendering it a karaoke. Nope. What you are left with is a hopeless, incoherent mess.

If and when this is finally a reality, I will be one of the first to jump on it – it will save me hours. Meanwhile – good old eartraining skills at work.

You can’t turn Mp3s or wma files into sheet music because an wma or MP3 file is data of a sound wave. Not the individual notes.

You can with MIDI files because a MIDI file is just a collection of notes, it uses the computer’s sound board to pick out when to play different instruments at different times. This is also why MIDIs are a few KB big while MP3s can be 5-30 MB.

http://www.notation.com/DownloadNotationPlayer.htm lets you see MIDI files, but nothing can be done for a sound file.

You could try to learn how to play it by ear i suppose.
