Question by suzanne: audio converter – can someone give some simple advise how to convert music files to .mp3 please?
I have no knowledge in this area but it has been suggested I could copy music onto my minidisc player. I am currently running windows 7 and the windows media player that came loaded. I understand these files need to have .mp3 extension. I have seen free downloads pertaining to these but would like to know what route to take. Q&A: Does anybody know a site where I can download a free, unlimited, music converter?

Question by : Does anybody know a site where I can download a free, unlimited, music converter?
Right…so I have an iTunes account with a shit load of music in it. I want to be able to listen to that music but without the hassle of the iTunes player. So all I want to do is convert the files I have in my iTunes library (all files are of the mp4 format) into .wma files so that I can add them into my Windows Media Player Library. I’ve searched everywhere but I can’t seem to find a site that gives me a free download of a converter with unlimited uses. Generally I will end up with either a limit on the number of conversions, or a restriction on the time of the songs I upload. Either way I don’t want any of this, I’m just looking for a converter that gives me unlimited conversions, unlimited time for those conversions, and of course, I’d like it free.

Any help at all in this task would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Philips GoGear Media Converter Problem Saving?

Question by GK: Philips GoGear Media Converter Problem Saving?
I just got a Philips GoGear and it is a music and video player. It came with its own video downloader and converter and I’m having trouble with the latter. The converter is called “Media Converter for Phillips by ArcSoft”. The GoGear only supports .smv files for its videos and so I’m trying to use the converter that came with it to do that only it’s not working. It will go through the conversion process only to state that it had an error saving.

So is there a way to fix it or is there another video converter that converts specifically to .smv?

I have Prism Video Converter as well but it doesn’t convert to .smv.

Best answer:

Answer by Steven Juliet
.smv video files?Oh, it’s wrong, as I know, Philips Gogear supports 640×480 wmv(wmv8/wmv9) videos well, so you need to use a good software to convert your videos to the 640×480 wmv(wmv8/wmv9) videos for Philips Gogear, to do that well, I know a good software can fit your requirement, just follow me to use RZ Video Converter which can convert any videos or audios between different formats with good quality, such as convert your videos to the 640×480 wmv(wmv8/wmv9) videos for Philips Gogear, etc. Yahoo or google search and download RZ Video Converter, hope it can help you.

Q&A: Ipod Touch songs from media converter?

Question by : Ipod Touch songs from media converter?
So on my Nokia 5300 music xpress I have a bunch of songs downloaded from media converter/youtube downloader so I’m getting an Ipod Touch soon and was thinking if I could use the same media converter/youtube downloader for the Ipod Touch because I really don’t want to pay for some songs that I already have downloaded for free.

http://www.mediaconverter.org/

If this method can work, what are the songs format? like for example, mp3 is obviously the mp3 format.
Can anyone tell me how I can put the music file that is downloaded from media converter into the itunes library?

Best answer:

Answer by Tyler
as long as the songs are in an mp3 format, and are in your iTunes library yes you will be able to do it like that. But neither the format nor the program are changeable so make sure that you can use that converter to put them into an mp3 format and that you have iTunes and you’ll be aight

Q&A: What is the best free media player out there for Windows XP, or at least media converter?

Question by DoriSai: What is the best free media player out there for Windows XP, or at least media converter?
My computer’s a bit old, and I’m a bit peeved at the many media players I have to download just to play different media types. I want one that can pretty much play the majority of the media types out there (mp3, m4a, flv, divx, wav, midi, avi, flac, and many more) and also hopefully convert. If not, I’d like a decent converter for at least my music since I’d like to transfer to other devices, many of which will only play certain types of files. I just don’t want to have to deal with spending hours finding a plugin to play something, or downloading a whole new media player when I find out one of them doesn’t work… Thus far, my favorite player has been Windows Media Player, it’s standard and easy to use, but the last few times I went looking for plugins I had to pay for them T_T and I dunt wanna do that.

I know you prob won’t want to hear this, but I have found Itunes to be the absolute best with converting and storing my music. Alteast it will be all in the same format and easy to work with.

Simple, automatic conversion, home network sharing, video, audio, raido.

It doesn’t get much better.

ArcSoft Media Converter problem?

Question by YoYo: ArcSoft Media Converter problem?
When I used ArcSoft Media Converter, it always detected my MP3 player. Now when I connect it, the computer detects it but the program dosen’t, so I can’t transfer videos or other file to my MP3 player. Can anybody help me or suggest a program that will let me convert videos and music to my MP3 player? Please Help Me!

Best answer:

Answer by hp
Actually you can transter files to your MP3 player without any program. Just go to computer and open your MP3 player. (probably drive E or F). Then just move/copy files from your computer and drop/paste them into your MP3 player. The only benefit of using that converter program is that you can convert other audio files such as wma, mp2, etc to MP3 format. New articles will be added to my website soon.

Q&A: is Windows Media Player bit rate converter good to use when burning cds?

Question by Se7en Sins: is Windows Media Player bit rate converter good to use when burning cds?
I notice when you want to burn a cd, it offers the option to “not convert” which is recomended, or it is says, convert to lower bit rate to add more music to the cd, but 192 kbps says its the best quality.

Does converting it to 192 actually make the music file worse?
Or does it improve quality.

Basically should i leave the audio as they are, or convert them to 192.

Best answer:

Answer by Saul
Don’t use Windows Media Player.

Google “CDex”, it’s a free program that has a better algorithm, and will rip music files that will sound better.

The higher the bitrate, the better the quality of the music file. If you don’t convert, I’m assuming that means it will rip a WAV file (ie completely uncompressed). This will have the best quality, but will be many, many times larger than an mp3 file.

192 kbps is a good place to be, if you use a good ripping algorithm. 320 kbps is the best quality mp3 you can get, but will also produce the largest mp3 file. 128 kbps (the standard, unfortunately) gives a little over 1 meg a minute, while 320 will give just over 3 megs a minute, if that gives you something to go by. I heartily recommend no bitrate smaller than 192 kbps! I would also suggest using CBR instead of VBR if you have a choice, as some CD burners and mp3 players have a harder time reading VBR files correctly.

If you use CDex, you can select the “insane” preset, as that will automatically give you the highest quality possible with the mp3 format (ie 320 kbps CBR ripped with the Lame mp3 codec) – this is the easiest way to go if you get confused by all of the different options.

You can also google MediaCoder Audio Edition for a good, free transcoder. This will let you convert your higher bitrate mp3 files into lower bitrate mp3 files or VBR files -> CBR files…. which is what I use it for, mostly. It sucks that my CD burner sometimes screws up the VBR files, but that’s how it goes.

Transcoding cannot *improve* the quality of an mp3 file… nothing can. Once the information is lost, its gone. So that means that converting a 128 kbps file to 320 kbps will *not* make it sound better… which is why I suggest just ripping at a higher quality to begin with. A lot of mp3 players have gigs of space for music, so why not just use the best?

Good luck!

Saul
